Content Policy

Usage of Our Content

You can share our content, quote from it, or summarize a few key points, but you cannot post it anywhere or claim it as your own. Many website owners and content creators in the video game industry have a habit of just plucking someone else’s content and using it as their own. This is disrespectful of the time and research I put into my articles.

Although I base my content on existing video game materials, I still do the necessary work to transform it into original content and it is copyrighted. Please do not steal it.

Authorship and expertise

All content on this website is by the hand of the same author, unless stated otherwise. Maverick van Houten is a pseudonym, but the information about his background and experiences is real and matches the person behind the pseudonym.

I am not an expert in every game I play. I try to briefly summarize my relevant experience in a game at the top of each article. This does mean that for some topics, I study content by those who are experts. If this becomes the basis for a significant part of my content, I will make sure to credit them properly.

Artificial Intelligence

There is absolutely no use of artificial intelligence in regards to the written content on AnswersForGamers. Although Artificial Intelligence can be decent for some goals, it is way too generic for the use of video game guides. AI cannot experience playing a video game and so the advice it puts out is mediocre at best.

Artificial Intelligence is used for some image creation, however. I do think that imagery produced by Artificial Intelligence has its issues and cannot compete against real artists, but images I would produce myself would be a lot less pleasing to the eye and have many more issues. Images are here to support the text, not the other way around.

Advertisements/sponsorships

I am not against advertisements to support the maintenance of this site and to compensate me for my time. I do, make sure that advertisements and sponsorships are always clearly marked as such.

There may be an occasional sponsorship, but I do not do “sponsored posts”. All opinions remain my own. Advertisers that cannot accept this will need to search for other avenues.

Unfortunately, many advertisers within the video game community are in the “virtual currency for real money” business. I will never accept these on AnswersforGamers, but they may still slip in unnoticed through an advertising network partner. If you spot them, please let me know at maverick@answersforgamers.com and I will make sure they disappear as quickly as possible.

Spoilers

The whole point of focusing on written content instead of videos is to avoid the spoilers of “related content” on YouTube. It would then be pretty silly for the written content to be spoiler-heavy anyway. Some topics, however, do relate to spoiler-heavy content. For those, there is no way around it. If you search for it, you know what you’re getting into, but this may also pose a problem for the blogroll on the main page. I’ll try to minimize issues there, but those worried about spoilers may want to avoid the main page.

Videos

A lot of readers want to avoid spoilers but still watch a video related to the content, either as a preference or to accompany the text. For this reason, we do often feature a video near the bottom of articles. Because we focus our content on written guides, these videos are usually not by the site author’s hand. When we use someone else’s video, we make sure to credit them accordingly.

Video creators who do not want their videos used in this way can disable them from being embeddable through YouTube settings. Although that is the easiest way, they can also always contact me with the request to remove their video.
